Tracy Chevalier: The Virgin Blue

Unlike other readers, I found that this book got better as it went along. I was very tempted to put it down when I started: the book goes back and forth between 16th century and modern day France and I found the modern day narrator annoying. As the stories came together, I lowered my standards a little and let myself enjoy this bit of light reading. Historical fiction at its best this book is not, but if you need a bit of fluff to get you through a day or two, and you like "women's fiction," this book does the trick.
